Fix Broken Tooltips on WarcraftLogs and Raider.io

March 22, 2026 · 5 min read

If you're in Turkey, Indonesia, India, Philippines, Serbia, Thailand, or China, you've probably noticed that WarcraftLogs and Raider.io are missing all their item and spell tooltips. Hover over an ability in a log report? Nothing. Check a player's gear on Raider.io? No item stats. The data is there but the context is gone.

Why tooltips break on these sites

Both sites load a tooltip script from Wowhead's CDN (wow.zamimg.com). The script is called power.js, and it turns item IDs and spell IDs into hover popups with stats, descriptions, and icons. When Wowhead is geo-blocked in your country, your browser can't reach wow.zamimg.com. The script fails to load silently. WarcraftLogs and Raider.io themselves are not blocked, but they depend on Wowhead's infrastructure for tooltip rendering.

The result: every spell ID, item link, and talent reference shows as plain text with no popup. You can still see the raw data (damage numbers, item names, talent choices), but you lose the context that makes it readable.

What specifically breaks on WarcraftLogs

On WarcraftLogs, the impact is across most features.

In damage and healing breakdowns, spell names appear but hovering shows nothing. You can't quickly check what a spell does, its cooldown, or its damage coefficients. In the timeline view, buff and debuff icons are still visible, but the descriptive tooltip that tells you what the buff does is gone. For item comparisons, gear lists show item names without stat popups, which makes it hard to compare what players are wearing. Talent tooltips in build views are blank too.

If you're a raid leader reviewing logs after a progression night, you're effectively working blind on the details. The numbers are there, but the "what does this spell actually do" layer is missing.

What specifically breaks on Raider.io

On Raider.io, character profile pages are the most affected. Item tooltips in gear views don't render, so you can't see item stats, set bonuses, or enchants by hovering. Talent tooltips in build recommendations are blank. If you're evaluating an applicant for your guild or checking a PUG player's profile, you're missing the details that matter.

Dungeon and raid guide pages also lose ability tooltips. Route planning tools that reference boss abilities by Wowhead spell IDs show plain text instead of hover descriptions.

Other competitive tools affected

WarcraftLogs and Raider.io are the highest-traffic examples, but the same tooltip failure hits every competitive WoW tool that uses Wowhead embeds: Wipefest for raid wipe analysis, Loot District for loot tracking, WoW Progress for guild rankings, and Archon for tier lists and build guides.

The fix

Install the WowTool.tips browser extension. Available for Chrome and Firefox. It intercepts the blocked tooltip script requests and routes them through working servers. Tooltips come back on WarcraftLogs, Raider.io, and every other site that depends on Wowhead.

No VPN needed. No per-site configuration. Install once, tooltips work everywhere.

What the extension does

The extension intercepts requests to Wowhead's tooltip script and CDN resources, and routes them through WowTool.tips servers. From your browser's perspective, the script loads normally. Tooltips render on every site, exactly as they would for a player in an unblocked country.

The extension only activates on Wowhead domains and CDN hosts (wow.zamimg.com, static.zamimg.com, nether.wowhead.com). It does not read, modify, or interact with any other site or browsing data.

What about using a VPN?

A VPN works but routes all your traffic through a foreign server, costs $5-15 per month, and adds latency to everything including your game connection if you forget to split-tunnel. Some VPNs also trigger rate limiting or CAPTCHAs on WarcraftLogs because the traffic comes from a shared IP. The extension avoids all of this. It only touches Wowhead-related requests and leaves everything else on your normal connection.

Frequently asked questions

Does the extension slow down WarcraftLogs? No. The tooltip script is a lightweight JavaScript file. Routing it through the proxy adds a few milliseconds at most. Log analysis performance is not affected.

Do I need to configure anything per site? No. The extension works on any website that loads Wowhead tooltips. WarcraftLogs, Raider.io, Icy Veins, Raidbots, and every other site are covered automatically.

Will this get me banned? No. The extension doesn't modify game data, interact with WoW's client, or violate any terms of service. It only restores access to a third-party tooltip service.
