Get the extension Or use the web proxy

Install once. Tooltips work everywhere.

Install the WowTool.tips browser extension. It runs silently in the background and fixes everything: Wowhead access, tooltips on every WoW site, no extra steps.

  • Wowhead links redirect through the proxy automatically
  • Tooltips restored on Icy Veins, Method, WarcraftLogs, Raider.io, and every WoW site
  • No VPN, no copy-pasting URLs, no monthly fees
  • Only activates on Wowhead domains. Does not touch anything else.

1. Download the extension zip below

2. Extract/unzip it to a folder (e.g. Desktop)

3. Go to chrome://extensions

4. Turn on Developer mode (top-right toggle)

5. Click Load unpacked and select the extracted folder

Download for Chrome

Green icon = active. Store listings for both browsers are on the way.

Also works on Edge, Brave, Opera, and Arc. Same Chrome extension, same steps.

The problem

Tooltips break on every WoW site

Icy Veins, Method.gg, WarcraftLogs, Raider.io, Archon.gg, WoWProgress, Raidbots, Bloodmallet, SubCreation, Wago.io, CurseForge, Mythic Trap, MMO-Champion, and more load Wowhead's tooltip script for item stats, spells, and quests. When Wowhead is blocked, the script fails silently. Every tooltip goes blank. Every link is a dead end.

Blocked in 7 countries since 2022

ZAM Network cut off Turkey, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, India, Serbia, and China in March 2022, citing legal compliance costs. Millions of WoW players lost access to the game's most essential database. Four years later, nothing has changed.

Blizzard support tells us to check Wowhead for help, but we can't even open the site. I have to toggle a VPN on and off every single time.

Every guide links to Wowhead. Every addon references it. There is no alternative with the same depth of community comments.

It's such an essential tool. I genuinely cannot play World of Warcraft without it, and there's nothing I can do about the restriction.

Blocked region player · Blizzard EU Forums

The real loss is the community knowledge. Every item and quest has years of player comments explaining how it works. That doesn't exist anywhere else.

Since yesterday Wowhead is blocking visitors from certain countries. China, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Turkey, Serbia, India.

I pay the same subscription as everyone else but can't use the one resource the entire community is built around.

For some legal reasons the website has now blocked access from eight countries including India. This legitimately sucks.

WarcraftLogs and Raider.io link to Wowhead for every spell and item tooltip. If you're in a blocked country, those tools lose half their value for raid prep.

The competitive play problem

Apparently anyone from my country is now blocked from using it. Goodbye Wowhead, I guess.

I get this screen whenever I log in from Thailand or Indonesia. I don't get it when I log in from Cambodia. I don't really understand this.

Money must be tight, or they got greedy. The whole community depends on this site and they just cut us off.

Player on US forums · Blizzard US Forums

This decision is ultimately due to legal compliance and liability issues. It is an indefinite situation.

Woke up to this this morning. Not sure if other regions are going to have this issue too.

Player from Singapore · r/wow

They don't care about us. The visitor numbers didn't justify the cost, so millions of players just got dropped.

This is the first time I hear that a website like this is stopping serving a region. Feels discriminatory.

Player from Serbia · Blizzard EU Forums

Advertising revenue in those countries is abysmally low, so they probably just don't make enough to justify the legal overhead.

Or use the web proxy

For quick lookups without installing anything, paste any Wowhead URL below.

wowtool.tips/

Try: wowhead.com/item=19019 or just paste a full Wowhead URL

1

Paste a link

Drop any Wowhead URL into the box above. Item, quest, spell, guide, talent calc, anything.

2

We route it

Your request goes through our server in a Wowhead-accessible region. No content is stored or modified.

3

You browse

Wowhead loads in your browser. Click links, search, browse. Everything works normally.

Does this hurt Wowhead? No. We use Cloudflare edge caching, so repeated lookups for the same page are served from cache instead of hitting Wowhead's servers again. 100 players viewing the same item page generate 1 origin request instead of 100. That means less load on Wowhead, not more.

FAQ

Is this legal?
WowTool.tips is a network routing service, functionally equivalent to a VPN or proxy server. We route your requests through a server in a region where Wowhead is accessible. We use edge caching to reduce load on Wowhead's servers, but do not redistribute or repurpose their content. Wowhead's ads and cookie consent banners are preserved and shown to users as-is. We operate under the same legal basis as any commercial VPN provider. See our Terms of Service for details.
Why is Wowhead blocked in my country?
In March 2022, ZAM Network (Wowhead's parent company) blocked access from seven countries: Turkey, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, India, Serbia, and China. Their stated reason was that legal compliance costs for these regions exceeded the revenue they generated. It is a business decision, not related to sanctions or government action. The block has been in place since then with no sign of reversal.
How does the extension fix tooltips on other sites?
Sites like Icy Veins, Method.gg, WarcraftLogs, Raider.io, Wowpedia, Archon.gg, WoWProgress, Raidbots, Bloodmallet, SubCreation, Wago.io, Mythic Trap, and dozens more load a tooltip script from wowhead.com. When Wowhead is blocked in your country, that script fails to load and all tooltips break. The extension intercepts these requests and routes them through WowTool.tips, so tooltips work again everywhere.
Is my data safe?
We do not store browsing data, account credentials, or page content. We do not inject tracking scripts or modify Wowhead's analytics. The extension only activates on wowhead.com domains and does not interact with any other websites. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I log into my Wowhead account?
Through the web proxy, logins may not work reliably because cookies pass through our server. With the browser extension, Wowhead sees your browser directly (routed through our server), so logins and account features work normally.
Why not just use a VPN?
You can. But a full VPN routes all your traffic, costs $5-15/month, and requires an app. WowTool.tips only handles Wowhead traffic, is free, and the extension works silently in your browser. If Wowhead is the only site you need unblocked, this is simpler and cheaper.
